| On March 17, 2012, MBS presented an
orientation presentation for bluebird monitors as a guest of the Accokeek
Foundation. The Foundation stewards 200 pristine acres across the Potomac River
from Mount Vernon. Accokeek has 20 bluebird boxes mounted within their borders
and a dozen or more monitors whose job it is to attend to the boxes on a weekend
day of their choosing. Board member Jay Jones led a forty-minute program that
acquainted new monitors with the history of Eastern Bluebird recovery in the
area and oriented them to successful nestbox monitoring techniques. A display
table offered nestboxes of several designs, predator traps, and an example of a
nestbox mounted on a pole, with baffle. Following the presentation, Mr. Jones
accompanied the monitors on a walking tour of the Accokeek bluebird trail.
